Composition
1 ml of solution for external use contains 0,1 mg myramistin (myristamidopropildimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride).
Pharmacology action
Pharmacodynamics
Myramistin (Septomirin) — antiseptic preparation. It has a bactericidal action.
The preparation is active to gram-positive and gram-negative, aerobic and anaerobic, spore-forming and asporogenic bacteria in the form of monocultures and microbial associations. The most sensitive to septomirin are: gram-positive microorganisms (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Bac. Subtilis, etc.); fungi (Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, Trichophyton rubrum, Microsporum lanosum, Aspergillis niger); gram-negative microorganisms (Neisseria sp., Esherichia spp., Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Vibrio spp., Treponema pallidum, Corynebacterium diphtheria); protozoa (Chlamidium trachomatis, Chlamidium pneumonia). It suppresses penicillinase-producing nosocomial strains.
It increases the functional activity of immune cells, stimulates the local nonspecific immune response, enhances the healing process of wounds, reduces the resistance of microorganisms to antibacterial preparations.
Pharmacokinetics
On local application it is practically not absorbed in the systemic blood flow.
Indication
The preparation is prescribed for prophylaxis of sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, clamidiosis, genital herpes, HIV); for treatment of septic wounds in surgery and obstetrics, gynaecology, surface and deep burns; on acute and chronic urethritis, urethraprostatitis, periodontitis, stomatitis, for hygienic handling of removable dentures, on acute and chronic otitus (without impairment of tympanic membrane integrity), sinusitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, on fungous skin and mucosa lesions.
Way of application and dosage
It is used externally and locally.
Locally: the gauze napkin shall be soaked in 0,01% solution and placed onto the infected wound or burn injury surface under the occlusive dressing.
After the operation for osteomyelitis it is moistened with solution through the drainage and the post-operation lesion and sinus tract are loosely plugged with tampons soaked in myramistin solution.
On treatment of urethritis and urethroprostatitis it is used intraurethrally — 2—5 ml 2—3 times a day during a week.
On urgent prophylaxis of sexually transmitted diseases not later than 2 hours after a casual sexual contact after a thorough toilet, the genital organs are treated with cotton wool tampon soaked abundantly in myramistin, after that the preparation 1 – 1,5 ml is administered intraurethrally. Women shall carry out irrigation of the vagina with 5—10 ml of the preparation.
On inflammatory diseases of feminine genital organs intra-vaginal irrigation is carried out every day with tampons soaked in the solution, or organ electrophoresis during 10—14 days.
For prophylaxis of the maternal passage infection, starting with the early postnatal period tampons soaked in the preparation are introduced into the vagina every 2 hours.
On septic otitis 1—2 ml of the preparation is introduced into the external acoustic meatus; on sinusitis – the maxillary sinus is abundantly washed down with the preparation after puncture and elimination of the matter; on tonsillitis and laryngitis it is recommended to rinse the throat with the solution 4—6 times a day.
Sideeffects
Allergicreactions. A feeling of slight burning is possible during a short time (10—15 sec).
Contraindications
Higher individual sensitivity to the preparation.
Precautions
Do not permit the ingress into the eyes.
